Equipment

  • 1 Large Mixing Bowl
  • 1 Baking Sheet
  • 1 Parchment Paper For lining the baking sheet
  • 1 Small Spoon or Butter Knife For deseeding jalapenos and filling
  • 1 Pair of Disposable Gloves Essential for handling jalapenos safely

Ingredients

Main

  • 1 lb jimmy dean sausage meat
  • 1 lb spicy jimmy dean sausage meat
  • 4 ounces cream cheese at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
  • 10 jalapeno peppers cut in half and seeded
  • 1 teaspoon garlic

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Carefully cut each jalapeno pepper in half lengthwise. Wearing gloves, use a small spoon to remove all seeds and white membranes to control the heat level.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the room temperature cream cheese, grated parmesan cheese, and minced garlic.
  • In a skillet, cook both the regular and spicy Jimmy Dean sausage meats over medium heat until fully browned and crumbled. Drain any excess grease thoroughly.
  • Add the cooked sausage to the cream cheese mixture in the bowl. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.
  • Generously spoon the sausage and cheese mixture into each hollowed-out jalapeno half, mounding the filling slightly.
  • Arrange the filled jalapeno halves in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the jalapenos are tender-crisp and the filling is golden brown and bubbly.
  • Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For optimal flavor and texture, consider lightly browning the sausage before mixing it with the cream cheese and garlic. This adds a depth of savory richness that elevates the poppers. Always wear gloves when handling and seeding jalapeños to prevent capsaicin irritation; for a milder heat, ensure all seeds and white membranes are thoroughly removed. To prevent the cream cheese from separating and ensure a creamy filling, make sure it's at true room temperature before mixing. Avoid overbaking; the goal is tender-crisp peppers and golden, bubbly filling. A final garnish of fresh chopped cilantro or chives offers a vibrant visual and aromatic finish. Consider wrapping each popper in a thin strip of bacon before baking for an irresistible smoky, crispy exterior.
