Equipment

  • 1 Large Mixing Bowl For combining burger ingredients efficiently.
  • 1 Large Skillet or Griddle Essential for cooking the patties evenly and melting cheese.
  • 1 Spatula For flipping patties without breaking them apart.
  • 1 Toaster Oven or Toaster For perfectly toasted hamburger buns.
  • 1 Chef's Knife and Cutting Board For mincing garlic and preparing fresh lime.

Ingredients

Main

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey
  • 4 links Mexican chorizo sausage casings removed
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon chipotle chile flakes
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons buttery spread
  • 4 slices pepper Jack cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 cups spring mix lettuce
  • 1 lime juiced

Instructions

  • Combine ground turkey, chorizo, garlic, onion powder, chipotle flakes, and black pepper in a large bowl; mix with your hands until well blended. Shape into 4 loosely packed patties.
  • Heat a griddle or large skillet over medium heat until hot. Melt buttery spread on the griddle. Add patties; cook until brown, about 3 minutes. Reduce heat to medium-low, continue cooking, about 5 minutes more. Flip patties; cook until brown, about 6 minutes.
  • Top each patty with 1 slice pepper Jack cheese; cook until cheese melted, about 1 minute more.
  • Toast hamburger buns in a toaster oven. Divide and spread mayonnaise on buns; place cooked patties over bottom buns. Top each patty with 1/2 cup spring mix lettuce; sprinkle with lime juice and cover with top buns.

Notes

To prevent a dense burger, handle the meat mixture minimally when combining and forming patties. Overworking the turkey can lead to a dry, tough texture. For an intensified flavor, consider grilling these burgers over charcoal; the smoky char perfectly complements the chorizo. Elevate the mayonnaise by incorporating a pinch of chipotle flakes or a touch of lime zest for a bright, spicy crema. Ensure your skillet isn't too hot initially to allow the patties to cook through without burning the exterior. Don't press the patties while cooking; this squeezes out juices. Serve immediately after assembling for the best experience.
