Stuffed French Toast

This fluffy stuffed French toast makes a lovely change from ordinary French toast. This recipe is my family's favorite version, but it is very easy to adapt to use your favorite flavor of jam or peanut butter — the options are practically limitless! Serve with maple syrup and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Notes

For optimal results, ensure cream cheese is at room temperature for smooth spreading. While oatnut bread provides good structure, challah or brioche will yield an even richer, softer texture. Avoid over-soaking the bread in the egg mixture to prevent a soggy interior; a quick, even dip is sufficient. Cook in batches if necessary to maintain consistent skillet temperature and achieve a beautiful, golden-brown crust without overcrowding. Consider a touch of cinnamon in the egg wash for added warmth. Serve immediately with warm maple syrup and a dusting of powdered sugar.
