Notes

The key to a visually appealing seven-layer gelatin salad lies in patience and precise chilling. Ensure each layer is 'almost set'—firm enough to support the next layer without mixing, but still slightly tacky to allow adherence. Rushing this step will result in muddy colors. For the opaque layers, whisk the evaporated milk into the dissolved gelatin slowly to prevent curdling and achieve a smooth, uniform texture. Experiment with complementary fruit flavors; for example, lime, raspberry, and orange offer a pleasant balance. For an elevated touch, consider a homemade whipped cream topping or a light dusting of freeze-dried fruit powder for added zest and color instead of the frozen whipped topping.
