  • 1 Baking Sheet For toasting the hot dog buns under the broiler.
  • 1 Chef's knife For finely chopping the red onion.
  • 1 Cutting Board Essential for safe and efficient ingredient preparation.

Ingredients

Main

  • 1 8 ounce package imitation crab or lobster meat
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped red onion
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • ¼ teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon butter softened
  • 2 hot dog buns

Instructions

  • Flake crabmeat into a medium bowl. Mix in mayonnaise, onion, lemon juice, and seasoning. Cover and refrigerate until flavors mingle, about 30 minutes.
  • Set an oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the oven's broiler. Spread butter on the inside of the hot dog buns.
  • Toast buns under the preheated broiler. Remove from the oven, fill with crab salad, and serve.

Notes

For an elevated experience, consider using fresh lump crab meat instead of imitation for a more authentic flavor and texture. A fine dice of celery or a sprinkle of fresh dill or chives will introduce a delightful textural contrast and aromatic complexity to the salad. When broiling the buns, keep a vigilant eye; they can go from perfectly golden to burnt in seconds. The goal is a light, even toast, providing a subtle crispness. Ensure the salad is thoroughly chilled for at least 30 minutes, allowing the flavors to fully meld. A final garnish of a lemon wedge and a dash of smoked paprika will enhance presentation and bright notes.
