Equipment

  • 1 Mixing Bowl For preparing the chicken filling.
  • 1 Baking Sheet To bake the crescent squares.
  • 1 Small saucepan or microwave-safe bowl For softening cream cheese and melting butter.
  • 1 Spatula or wooden spoon For mixing ingredients.
  • 1 Measuring Spoons and Cups For accurate ingredient measurement.

Ingredients

Main

  • 3 oz cream cheese
  • 1 tblspn butter
  • 2 cups cooked chicken
  • 1 tblspn chives
  • 1/4 tspn salt
  • 1/8 tsp pepper
  • 2 tblspn milk
  • 8 oz pillsbury crescent dough
  • 1 tblspn butter
  • 3/4 cup croutons seasoned

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare an ungreased baking sheet.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, ensure the cream cheese is softened, then combine it with shredded cooked chicken, chives, salt, pepper, and milk. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.
  • Unroll the Pillsbury crescent dough and separate it into 8 individual triangles.
  • Place a generous spoonful of the chicken mixture onto the wide end of each crescent triangle.
  • Fold the pointed end of the dough over the filling, then roll it up towards the narrower end, gently sealing the edges to form a neat square or parcel.
  • Arrange the filled crescent squares evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter in a small saucepan or microwave-safe bowl.
  • Crush the seasoned croutons into fine crumbs using a bag and rolling pin, or a food processor.
  • Brush the tops of each crescent square with the melted butter, ensuring even coverage.
  • Generously sprinkle the crushed crouton crumbs over the buttered squares. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crescent dough is puffed and golden brown, and the filling is heated through.

Notes

For best results, ensure your cream cheese is at room temperature before mixing to achieve a smooth, lump-free filling. Finely shred or dice the cooked chicken; this provides better texture and easier handling when rolling the crescent dough. To enhance the topping, pulse the seasoned croutons in a food processor for finer crumbs, which adhere better and provide a more uniform crispy crust. A pinch of garlic powder or a hint of smoked paprika in the chicken mixture can elevate the savory profile. Avoid overfilling the crescent dough to prevent bursting during baking. For an extra golden finish, you can egg wash the dough before buttering and adding croutons.
