Notes

For optimal flavor, lightly toast the pecans before adding them to the mixture; this deepens their nutty aroma. To achieve a perfectly set filling without overbaking, look for a slight jiggle in the center when gently shaken, akin to a firm custard. Overbaking can lead to a dry, tough texture. To prevent a soggy bottom crust, consider blind baking the pie shell for 10-15 minutes before pouring in the filling. A pinch of cinnamon or a dash of bourbon can add complexity to the traditional sweetness. Ensure the pie cools completely at room temperature for at least 2-3 hours for the filling to fully set, making for cleaner slices.
