Notes

To elevate this simple oatmeal, a tiny pinch of fine sea salt will significantly balance and amplify the sweetness. For a richer, creamier texture, stir in a splash of whole milk or cream, or a pat of butter, after cooking. Consider adding a dash of cinnamon or a hint of vanilla extract for aromatic depth. For textural contrast and added nutrients, top with toasted nuts like pecans or walnuts, or fresh berries and sliced banana. While quick oats are convenient, for a heartier, chewier consistency, use old-fashioned rolled oats, adjusting cooking time accordingly. Avoid overcooking quick oats, as they can become gummy; allowing them to sit off-heat after stirring in sweeteners ensures proper thickening without compromising texture.
