Equipment

  • 1 Kettle or small saucepan
  • 1 Mug or heatproof glass
  • 1 Teaspoon
  • 1 Small spoon for stirring and removing herbs
  • 1 Fine-mesh Sieve (optional, for a clearer tea)

Ingredients

Main

  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 sprig fresh lemon verbena about 10 leaves
  • 1 sprig fresh mint about 15 leaves
  • 1 teaspoon honey or to taste

Instructions

  • Boil 1 cup of fresh water using a kettle or small saucepan.
  • While the water is heating, gently rinse the fresh lemon verbena and mint sprigs.
  • Place the lemon verbena and mint sprigs into a heatproof mug or teacup.
  • Once the water reaches a rolling boil, carefully pour it over the herbs in the mug.
  • Allow the tea to steep for 5 to 7 minutes, covering the mug if desired to retain heat and aroma.
  • Using a small spoon, carefully remove the herb sprigs from the tea. For a clearer tea, strain through a fine-mesh sieve.
  • Stir in 1 teaspoon of honey, or adjust to your desired sweetness.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy warm. Alternatively, chill and serve over ice for a refreshing cold beverage.

Notes

For optimal flavor, always use the freshest possible lemon verbena and mint. Bruising the herb leaves lightly before steeping can release more essential oils. Be mindful not to over-steep, as mint, in particular, can impart a bitter note if left too long; 5-7 minutes is usually sufficient. Adjust honey to your preference, or omit for a sugar-free version. For an enhanced detox experience, consider adding a thin slice of fresh ginger or a squeeze of lemon juice after steeping. This tea is delightful served warm or chilled over ice.
