Equipment

  • 2 Mixing Bowls One large for wet ingredients, one medium for dry
  • 1 Electric Mixer (stand or hand) For creaming butter and sugar
  • 1 Measuring Cups and Spoons For accurate ingredient measurements
  • 2 Baking Sheets For baking batches of cookies
  • 1 Spatula or wooden spoon For mixing and scraping

Ingredients

Main

  • 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. butter or margarine
  • 3/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 3 c. old-fashioned oats
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 package semisweet chocolate chips 1 cup

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  • In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and both sugars until light and fluffy using an electric mixer.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed just until combined.
  • Stir in the old-fashioned oats, raisins, and chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers are still slightly soft.
  • Let cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Ensure butter and eggs are at room temperature for optimal creaming and dough consistency. Do not overmix the dough once dry ingredients are added to prevent tough cookies. Chilling the dough for at least 30 minutes helps the cookies hold their shape better during baking and improves flavor. Bake until edges are golden but centers still look slightly soft; they will firm up as they cool. For best results, use old-fashioned oats, not instant.
