Equipment

  • 1 Hand Mixer Essential for achieving the fluffy consistency
  • 1 Mixing Bowl Medium-sized for whipping
  • 1 Measuring Spoons For accurate ingredient portions
  • 1 Serving Glass A 12-ounce glass is ideal for presentation

Ingredients

Main

  • 2 tablespoons hot water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 heaping tablespoon instant coffee granules
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 4 ounces milk

Instructions

  • Add the water, sugar, instant coffee and vanilla to a bowl. Using a hand mixer, whip until light and fluffy, so that the mixture resembles a coffee-colored meringue mixture, about 3 minutes.
  • Fill a 12-ounce glass with ice, then pour in the milk. Add the whipped coffee and stir it into the milk.

Notes

For optimal results, ensure you use instant coffee granules, not ground coffee, as the latter will not whip to the desired consistency. The hot water is crucial for dissolving the coffee and sugar, aiding in the whipping process. While a hand mixer provides the best aeration and texture in just a few minutes, a vigorous whisk can be used if a mixer isn't available, though it will require more effort and time. Adjust sugar to your preference. Serving over cold milk and ice is traditional, but feel free to experiment with plant-based milks or even warm milk for a different experience. For an extra touch, a sprinkle of cocoa powder or a drizzle of caramel can elevate the presentation and flavor.
