This recipe for beanie weenies is from my stepmother. Tastes good topped with grated sharp Cheddar cheese. Any leftovers will taste even better the next day.

Notes

Achieving a deep, even brown on the hot dogs and optional bacon is crucial for developing rich, savory flavors through the Maillard reaction; do not rush this step. If using bacon, render its fat thoroughly as it imparts a superior depth of flavor compared to olive oil. When simmering, allow the sauce to reduce sufficiently to a thick, coating consistency, concentrating the flavors of the beans and spices. This dish benefits from a good quality hot dog. For an elevated presentation and taste, serve hot, topped with freshly grated sharp Cheddar cheese and a sprinkle of additional fresh parsley, perhaps alongside a side of cornbread or crusty artisan bread for dipping.
