Equipment

  • 1 Air Fryer
  • 2 Small Mixing Bowls
  • 2 Air Fryer-Safe Ramekins or Dishes Suitable for individual servings
  • 1 Measuring Spoons and Cups
  • 1 Fork or Pastry Blender For mixing topping

Ingredients

Main

  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 2 teaspoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 pinch salt
  • Topping:
  • 3 tablespoons quick-cooking oats
  • 1.5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1.5 tablespoons salted butter softened

Instructions

  • In a small mixing bowl, combine the frozen blueberries, 2 teaspoons all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, and a pinch of salt; toss gently until the blueberries are evenly coated.
  • In a separate small mixing bowl, combine the 3 tablespoons quick-cooking oats, 1.5 tablespoons all-purpose flour, 1.5 tablespoons brown sugar, and 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon.
  • Add the 1.5 tablespoons softened salted butter to the oat mixture, then use your fingers or a fork to work the butter into the dry ingredients until a coarse, crumbly topping forms.
  • Divide the prepared blueberry mixture evenly between two air fryer-safe ramekins or small oven-safe dishes.
  • Evenly sprinkle the oat and butter topping over the blueberries in each ramekin, ensuring good coverage.
  • Carefully place the ramekins into the air fryer basket. Ensure there is enough space between them for even air circulation.
  • Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the blueberry mixture is visibly bubbling around the edges.
  • Carefully remove the hot ramekins from the air fryer using oven mitts.
  • Allow the blueberry crisp to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving to let it set slightly and to prevent burns.
  • Serve warm, optionally accompanied by a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an enhanced dessert experience.

Notes

For optimal results, ensure the salted butter is truly softened for the topping; this allows for easy incorporation and creates a perfect crumbly texture. While frozen blueberries are convenient, fresh blueberries can also be used, though cooking time might vary slightly. The lemon juice is crucial for brightness, cutting through the sweetness and enhancing the berry flavor. Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if necessary to ensure even browning and crispness. Serve this warm, ideally with a scoop of high-quality vanilla bean ice cream to complement the warm fruit and crunchy topping.
