Gather ’round, McDonald’s fans, because the Golden Arches are seriously shaking things up! Get ready for some sweet, crunchy, and maybe even spicy news. We’ve got updates on exciting new menu items, a beloved limited-time offering making a comeback, and even a massive hiring push happening behind the scenes. Let’s dive in!

First up, let’s talk desserts! What’s better than a classic McFlurry? How about a brand-new flavor that screams celebration? McDonald’s is pulling out all the stops to mark the 30th anniversary of the iconic McFlurry, and they’ve blessed us with a festive Birthday Cake flavor!

This dreamy new treat blends that creamy vanilla soft serve we all know and love with frosted cake-flavored confetti cookie dough pieces and a sweet drizzle of birthday cake syrup. It sounds like a party in a cup, right? You can grab it in regular or snack sizes.

Now, here’s where things get a little… well, geographically specific. This celebratory Birthday Cake McFlurry is currently only available in Canada! Yep, our neighbors to the north get to enjoy this limited-edition goodness starting this week at participating locations.

It totally makes sense when you think about it, though! The McFlurry was actually invented way back in 1995 by Ron McLellan in Bathurst, New Brunswick, making Canada its official home country. June 7 marks exactly 30 years since it first appeared on a McDonald’s menu, so this flavor is a sweet nod to its roots.

Of course, this has some of us in the States feeling a bit of FOMO. As the food blog Snackolator quipped, “Yes … I know you’re shocked, but McDonald’s has given Canada yet another amazing McFlurry flavor while we sit here with the two that we always get.” They weren’t shy about mentioning other cool Canadian flavors like an Apple Cake McFlurry tied to a movie and a “Cadbury Egg McFlurry, just in the last month.” Hey, at least we still have our classic Oreo and M&M flavors nationwide!

But wait, the global McFlurry madness doesn’t stop there! Did you hear about the Cotton Candy Oreo McFlurry making waves? This vibrant blue beauty blends cotton candy-flavored soft serve with crunchy Oreo pieces and has been causing serious buzz.

It looks incredibly cool and sounds delicious, but there’s another catch – this one is only available in Singapore! They even have a Cotton Candy Hot Fudge Sundae and a Cotton Candy Cone over there. Talk about a sweet lineup!

Copycat McDonald's Peanut Butter Crunch McFlurry

This recipe recreates a popular fast-food ice cream treat using softened vanilla ice cream, milk, and crushed peanut butter chocolate cookies. The ingredients are gently mixed together to achieve a thick, swirled consistency before serving.
Total Time 10 minutes
Course lunch/dinner
Cuisine American
Servings 4 people
Calories 2646.6 kcal

Equipment

  • 1 Large Mixing Bowl
  • 1 Measuring Cups
  • 1 Sturdy spoon or spatula For mixing thick ice cream
  • 4 Serving cups or bowls

Ingredients

Main

  • 1 1/2 quarts old-fashioned vanilla ice cream about 6 cups
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups crushed peanut butter chocolate cookies

Instructions

  • Gather all necessary ingredients and equipment.
  • Allow the vanilla ice cream to soften slightly at room temperature for a few minutes until scoopable.
  • Transfer the softened ice cream into a large mixing bowl.
  • Pour the whole milk into the bowl with the ice cream.
  • Using a sturdy spoon or spatula, gently mix the ice cream and milk together until just combined and the mixture achieves a slightly smoother consistency.
  • Add the crushed peanut butter chocolate cookies to the bowl.
  • Carefully fold the crushed cookies into the ice cream mixture, distributing them evenly throughout.
  • Avoid overmixing; the goal is a thick, swirled texture, not a completely smooth blend.
  • Immediately scoop the mixture into serving cups or bowls.
  • Serve the copycat McFlurry right away for the best frozen texture.

Notes

Ensure the ice cream is softened just enough to be scoopable and mixable, but not melted, for the correct consistency. Overmixing will result in a runny texture. For extra flavor, consider swirling in a tablespoon or two of creamy peanut butter before adding the cookies. If crushing whole cookies, place them in a zip-top bag and crush with a rolling pin or bottom of a heavy pan.

Meanwhile, over in the UK, a fan favorite is making a triumphant return! The Biscoff McFlurry is back on the menu from May 7. This treat, featuring vanilla soft serve swirled with Biscoff biscuit crumbs, was hailed as “legendary” and “10/10” by fans before it was previously taken off the menu. It’s a limited-edition item, expected to be around for about six weeks, so UK fans better hurry!

What’s exciting for those of us in the US? Get ready, collectors and fans, because the Squishmallows Happy Meal is officially back! As of May 13, you can find these adorable plush pals at US McDonald’s locations for a limited time.

The chain teased, “Happy Meal fans, gather ’round. You’ve waited patiently for two years, and we want to let all collectors know, there’s a new squad on the block that you won’t want to miss out on.” There are 12 different mini Squishmallows to collect, including a brand-new character: Halley the Intergalactic Axolotl!

These aren’t just cute toys; like their bigger versions, they have names, bios, and even scannable tags that unlock an interactive game. Given the huge #Squishmallows craze on TikTok (over 688,000 videos!), these are expected to sell out fast. McDonald’s confirmed they’re only available through June 9 or while supplies last, so you know the drill – act fast!
