Disney Dreamlight Valley is really great right now. It feels great to hang out with your favorite Disney friends, complete quests, and spend time together. Sometimes that really is the best part of the game. But when you get into the cooking area, it feels hard. Sometimes it feels like you are solving a mystery or riddle to master.

Early in the game, you are given some instructions, and it tells you exactly how to make a specific food. But soon, those instructions disappear. You are left to sit at the stove and figure out what dish to make, staring at the ingredients like solving a puzzle. Find a recipe hidden somewhere? Maybe! Or just throw something in the pot and hope for success. Trust me, everyone usually tries the trial and error method.

It really feels hard, and often requires flipping through many lists or guessing the combination of ingredients. In addition, determining the ingredient category can be difficult. The game has its own rules for these groupings you see. These rules may not match your “Collections” screen list.

With all these dishes feeling like they were made for the lazy among us, let me tell you about a dish I really like. It’s often called “three-ingredient cream soup” online. Let me start with a fun fact. The official list lists four ingredients for this soup. Yes, four, not three.

It lists spices, milk, potatoes, and vegetables. So technically, this dish has four ingredients in total. But stay with me for a moment. The neat thing about it is that it requires very simple categories of ingredients. Two of the ingredients are very specific: milk and potatoes. The other two ingredients are, of course, categories of ingredients. You need ingredients like “spices” and “vegetables.”

Now here’s what’s fun about this soup. The “spices” and “vegetables” requirements are pretty flexible, and we listed basil, garlic, and ginger, as well as mint and oregano. This list is pretty easy to keep up with. So, in your soup, just pick any one and you’re good to go.

Just imagine how many different flavors you can create. A little bit of basil can bring a fresh, peppery flavor. Garlic is good, too; anything is usually better with garlic. Ginger can add a hint of warmth and flavor to a soup. Mint is a pretty interesting choice for a creamy soup. I think it definitely makes for a unique and refreshing soup. Oregano brings a classic earthy flavor, which helps.

So, just from the “spices” requirement alone, you have a lot of options. There are five flavors in total that are easy to try. It depends on what you have on hand, or what you’re in the mood for. This keeps the recipe simple: just pick one spice you need. This adds variety and is fun without being complicated.

Creamy Tomato Soup

Equipment

  • 1 Large Soup Pot Heavy-bottomed preferred for even heating
  • 1 Slotted Spoon For removing bacon
  • 1 Blender Immersion blender or standard blender (handle hot liquid carefully)
  • 1 Kitchen Twine For tying herb bundle
  • 1 Whisk For making roux and emulsifying cream

Ingredients

Main

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 slice bacon finely chopped
  • 1 Spanish onion chopped
  • 1 carrot chopped
  • 1 stalk celery chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic finely chopped
  • 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 4 1/2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 28-ounce can whole, peeled tomatoes
  • 3 parsley sprigs
  • 3 fresh thyme sprigs
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Heat the butter in a large soup pot over medium-high heat. Add the bacon and cook, stirring, until crisp and most of the fat has rendered, about 1 minute. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate and set aside. Lower the heat to medium, add the onion, carrots, celery, and garlic and cook, covered, stirring occasionally, until soft and fragrant, about 8 minutes.
  • Stir in the flour and cook, stirring, for 3 minutes. Pour in the broth and crush the tomatoes through your fingers into the pan. Bring to a boil while whisking constantly. Tie the parsley sprigs, thyme, and bay leaf together with a piece of kitchen twine and add to the pot. Lower the heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool.
  • Remove and discard the herb bundle. Working in batches, transfer the mixture to a blender and puree until smooth. Return the puree to the pot and reheat over medium heat.
  • Whisk in the heavy cream, salt, and pepper, to taste. Divide among warm soup bowls and serve immediately.

Notes

Ensure vegetables are cooked until very soft to provide a sweet base for the soup. Cook the flour roux for the full 3 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste. When adding the broth and crushed tomatoes, whisk vigorously to prevent lumps. If using a standard blender for hot liquids, blend in small batches, do not overfill, and vent the lid slightly, covering with a towel. An immersion blender is often safer and easier. Finish the soup by whisking in the cream gently over low heat or off heat to prevent curdling. A pinch of sugar can help balance the acidity of the tomatoes if needed. Garnish with reserved crispy bacon or fresh herbs.

Now get ready, because the “veggies” category is sure to get crazy. There are so many varieties of vegetables. We’re talking asparagus, bell peppers, and carrots. Peppers, corn, and cucumbers are also in the mix. Now eggplant, leeks, lettuce, mushrooms, okra, and onions have joined the list. Potatoes are on the list again, and finally there are squash and seaweed, as well as spinach, tomatoes, and zucchini.

The great thing about this soup is that it only requires any of them. You only need one specific potato, and then only one other vegetable. This makes this soup very easy to make, and it’s perfect for when you need a quick and reliable ingredient.

You can go for a classic and comforting combination. Why not try potatoes + milk + basil + tomatoes. Tomatoes and basil are often a well-known and delicious combination. Add a creamy base and you have a warm and familiar taste. Next, how about potatoes + milk + garlic + spinach? This combination looks like a bowl of energy-packed soup. It is rich in the nutrients of garlic and has beneficial leafy greens.

Want to get a little adventurous with your ingredients? Try potatoes + milk + ginger + pumpkin and cook them. Pumpkin soup is a long-standing staple. The addition of ginger adds a warming flavor to the soup. Or potatoes + milk + mint + cucumber? That sounds really special, like a refreshing soup to cool down the summer heat.

For example, how about potatoes + milk + oregano + zucchini? That’s a great earthy flavor combination. Or potatoes + milk + basil + bell pepper? That makes for a colorful soup with a nice sweetness. Potatoes + milk + garlic + mushrooms make for a rich, savory soup. Potatoes + milk + ginger + carrots make for a sweeter, slightly spicy soup. Even potatoes + milk + ginger + seaweed now works just as well.

This extensive list of ingredients is exactly what makes it so delicious. It’s perfect for a “lazy” night, or to quickly complete some quick tasks. You don’t have to look for four specific items at all. You need milk, a potato, any spices, and any vegetables you need. Chances are you already have the right items in your inventory. Or you can usually find one easily near the gaming location.

Leek Potato Soup

This classic recipe creates a creamy, comforting leek and potato soup. Leeks are slow-cooked in butter, then simmered with diced potatoes in vegetable broth. The mixture is pureed until smooth and finished with heavy cream and buttermilk for richness and tang.

Calories 1994.2 kcal

Equipment

  • 1 Large Saucepan Approximately 6-quart capacity
  • 1 Immersion Blender For pureeing directly in the pot
  • 1 Cutting Board
  • 1 Chef's knife
  • 1 Ladle For serving

Ingredients

Main

  • 1 pound leeks cleaned and dark green sections removed, approximately 4 to 5 medium
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Heavy pinch kosher salt plus additional for seasoning
  • 14 ounces approximately 3 small, Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and diced small
  • 1 quart vegetable broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 tablespoon snipped chives

Instructions

  • Chop the leeks into small pieces.
  • In a 6-quart saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the leeks and a heavy pinch of salt and sweat for 5 minutes. Decrease the heat to medium-low and cook until the leeks are tender, approximately 25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the potatoes and the vegetable broth, increase the heat to medium-high, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and gently simmer until the potatoes are soft, approximately 45 minutes.
  • Turn off the heat and puree the mixture with an immersion blender until smooth. Stir in the heavy cream, buttermilk, and white pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning if desired. Sprinkle with chives and serve immediately, or chill and serve cold.

Notes

Ensure leeks are meticulously cleaned, as dirt can hide between the layers. Sweat the leeks slowly over low heat; this gentle cooking brings out their sweetness without browning. Don't rush the potato simmering phase; they must be very tender to achieve a truly smooth soup when pureed. The addition of buttermilk provides a pleasant tang that balances the richness of the heavy cream and butter. Taste and adjust seasoning after adding the dairy, as liquids can dilute saltiness. For a thinner soup, add a little more broth or hot water after pureeing.
