Step inside a Subway shop. You will probably smell the bread baking, and I have to say it smells wonderful. Subway has been in business since 1965. It is an essential fast food item for most people.
With so many choices on their menu, we wanted to see which ones tasted the best and it was time to test out some of the popular choices. Let’s see how they fare.
We’ll be ranking 8 different Subway standard options, with the main criteria for judging each one being taste and texture. Customisation is a great thing at Subway shops, which is one of the main reasons for its popularity.
The focus of this test was on standard ingredients and we tested the inherent balance of ingredients. Certain ingredients require additional additions or reductions, so let’s count them from low to high.
8. **Garlic Roast Beef**: In eighth place is the Garlic Roast Beef Sandwich. It is based on a classic Italian bread and the strong garlic flavour really elevates this sandwich, the strong flavour of the garlic goes well with the roast beef and cheese inside. The meat on this sandwich was excellent.
The roasted garlic mayo we consider a classic and we really liked how it blended with the tomatoes. But the red onion felt a little too strong in this particular combination. However, you can omit the onions to your liking.

7. **The Ultimate B.M.T.**:Next up is the seventh Ultimate B.M.T.. If you eat Subway (SUBWAY) regularly, you must know that this is a legendary sandwich. That’s because B.M.T. stands for ‘Biggest, Fattest, Tastiest.’ Honestly, that word fits this powerhouse sandwich perfectly now. It brings together Genoa Salami and Pepperoni, as well as Black Forest Ham.
Each meat is special in its own way. The salami in this adds a savoury depth, while the pepperoni naturally brings out the spice. The sweet ham is certainly a solid base layer. Add in a parmesan vinaigrette and the standard vegetable toppings and this was a totally perfect lunch.
6. **Roast Beef**:Sliding into number six position is the classic **Roast Beef**. In sixth place is the classic roast beef. I actually think this sandwich could easily swap places with turkey or ham, and they’re both neck and neck. They both have flavours that would make them a solid choice.
The key thing taste-wise is that it really isn’t too dry. This is definitely a big win for deli meats. The meat itself always has great flavour and texture.
If there’s anything that could be adjusted, it would be the thickness. I wish the beef was shaved a little thinner. Like real deli meat. Thinner shaving makes it much easier to bite and chew. It takes the whole dining experience to the next level.

5. **Meatball Marinara**:Ah, the **Meatball Marinara**. Ah, Italian meatballs. Now in fifth place. This dish can bring out a lot of nostalgia in many people. Because if you loved Chef Boyardee when you were a kid, then this one will be right up your alley.
In which tender meatballs are covered in a delicious spaghetti sauce. All of this is sandwiched between Italian bread and topped with Parmesan cheese. It’s a simple yet delicious combination. Perhaps the meatballs themselves may not be particularly experiential, but they are certainly familiar with classic flavours. It’s best eaten while it’s hot, though, or the flavour will degrade very quickly.

4. **Turkey Breast**: Fourth on the list is the trusty turkey breast. Think of it as the little black dress. It’s effortlessly versatile and works for any occasion. Of course it depends on your mood and your favourite toppings.
Its core ingredient is turkey breast, which provides a lean and clean protein base and is the number one choice for many fitness professionals. Plain turkey can sometimes feel monotonous, but that’s when you can use Subway’s customisation feature you can add any toppings on top.

3. **Subway Club**: Rounding out the top three is the classic Subway Club sandwich. It’s a tried-and-true meat combination that’s also popular. In this one you can savour roasted turkey meat and Black Forest ham meat. Then you pile these rich meats on multigrain bread for the classic club package.
In addition to the meat trio, you can now add your favourite toppings. You can try adding English mustard, which will also give it a tangy flavour. Don’t confuse this classic with the All-American Club. Because the other one has slightly different meats in it, it’s only available at certain places you see. But the standard Subway Club is easy to find all over the country.

2. **The Beast**: Rushing into second place is The Beast sandwich. The name sounds intimidating, but the name is actually apt because the dish is a meat beast.
What makes The Beast live up to its name? It’s piled high with all sorts of meats. Pepperoni, salami, turkey, ham and roast beef galore. That’s pretty much all the meats. But there’s also provolone cheese, mayonnaise and vinaigrette in there.

1. **The Boss**: At last, at the top of our list is The Boss. it’s the undisputed champion of Subway’s basic sandwiches. Subway says it’s the ‘mother of all meatball sandwiches.’ Honestly, after tasting it, we totally get it now. It takes the concept of a pepperoni and meatball sandwich.
It’s the perfect blend of classic flavours and key upgrades. It’s filled with delicious meatballs and spicy Italian sausage. Covered in spicy Italian sauce and topped with slices of provolone cheese. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese for extra flavour.
The real reason for pushing it to number one is the bread, and this one uses Italian herbed cheese bread. The herbs baked into the bread add incredible depth. They naturally complement the rich savoury filling. The grilled cheese on top of the bread then adds an overall crunch. Overall, it’s the perfect pairing of toppings and bread that makes it number one. It was a truly complete and satisfying sandwich experience.
And with that, our underground sandwich test is over. We’ve seen some sandwiches that need to be improved upon, as well as absolute champions. Whether you prefer a simple classic or a meaty monster. There’s always a SUBWAY sandwich waiting for you. Remember, you can always tweak and customise your sandwich.
