A majority of individuals like me who join Costco anticipate saving some money. I envisioned buying my favorite snacks and toilet paper in bulk without any worries. Bulk stores promise reasonable savings, seeming to be a wise money choice.
Being a member elsewhere, I knew how these stores work. The $65 year Gold Star plan was the cheapest one for my usage. It comes with two cards, I wanted to know if Costco’s huge reputation is true.
Household and grocery saving was my main point of interest. I thought in terms of expansive aisles and stocking up to save money on staples. The fundamental idea was small savings would pay for the annual membership fee in due time.
Delivery and Online Shopping Options
But membership included an early surprise. Saving money at the grocery store was okay, but big money came in indirect ways. Saving pennies on crackers but hundreds on big house buys needed.
Before those successes, understand a difference about shopping at Costco. I overheard online order and ship options could include groceries. Costco Direct would be perfect for appliances and furniture too.
It does offer sales on bulk products, but especially if you’re buying more than one. But the catch that I’ve discovered is, Costco Direct won’t apply to groceries or small products like toilet paper.
It is geared towards big purchases like electronics and furniture mostly. The smallest item offered is packs of water filters for certain. Hope to avoid the store for olive oil? Costco Direct is not your service.
For grocery shopping without leaving the store, use Same-Day delivery by Costco. It’s locally powered by InstaCart. Check to see if it’s available where you’re at before giving it a shot. You can get groceries delivered at times in an hour or so effectively.
Comparable to Direct, this warehouse is member-only on their site. Same-Day needs are available for the majority of people. There is a $35 order minimum in place. It permits you to buy virtually anything you find within.
This includes fresh produce and vegetables, dairy items, and frozen goods available. You can add things like pet supplies or toys into cart. It’s a true store-to-door operation with products you use a lot.
There is a loophole for non-members if they still desire delivery. They shop through the regular Instacart app with no problem. Both of them pay slightly more for products due to fees. Even at cost, same-day delivery is great sometimes.
It is convenient if you just can’t make it to the store. Shelling out a few more dollars is worth it then. Costco also offers Two-Day Delivery on some items.
This is only for non-perishable home stuff usually. It even imposes a delivery charge if order is less than $75 total. Delivery is an option, but sometimes with extra charges to remember.
Surprise Big-Ticket Savings
My first grocery cost-saving plan needed to be adjusted in brief time. But the surprise dollar amounts saved came in far more unexpected ways than breaking even on membership. Not small dollar amounts saved on paper towels mattering.

They treated heavy furniture with much care then. They returned it once new carpet was put in perfectly. Process was seamless, transforming our home space.

Third major saving was in planning a trip out. A friend recommended checking Costco Travel first for rentals. I heeded advice, comparing prices everywhere else. Nothing came close to rates Costco Travel offered effortlessly.
Not only price cheaper but terms better also. For one-way travel, pickup in DC area. Returning it off in Atlanta Georgia was simple. Costco offered this without the additional fee charged as standard.
