With so many options, Costco is the perfect location for anyone who loves desserts. Because Costco is known for its quality and variety, the desserts at the bakery are very tempting. My idea was to try some of the popular desserts from Costco and see which one suits me best. Let me just say that not all of the desserts were for me, but there were a few that I would definitely buy again.

Whenever you walk through the bakery section there, you can see shelves filled with options like fancy cakes and unique candies. I have a sweet tooth and I love to sample, so I sampled a variety of desserts. Here are the results of my testing of these sweet treats.

Kirkland Signature Chocolate Mousse Tuxedo Cake

When it comes to impressive desserts, the Kirkland Signature Chocolate Mousse Tuxedo Cake is always a top choice for many. Layered with layers, this cake looks so beautiful that you can’t help but savor it. Upon taking the first bite. I savored the white chocolate mousse and brownie crumble and wow, the richness was unmatched. The chocolate layer was thick and moist and the mousse gave off the perfect creamy flavor. It was incredibly rich and delightful to eat, a chocolate lover’s dream at its best. I would love to taste this delicacy again and put it on my shopping list.

The next one I sampled was the La Vie Gourmand Portuguese Custard Tarts.Eating one of these custard tarts was like taking a small bite of pure bliss. The outside of my shell was light and buttery and crispy, and the custard tart inside was smooth and sweet but not too sweet. Personally, I feel this little dessert is perfect to have with your morning coffee or as a side for afternoon tea. I’ll be picking up these little tarts again on my next trip.

Kirkland Signature Super Premium Vanilla Ice Cream

Next up, try the Kirkland Signature Super Premium Vanilla Ice Cream. this ice cream has gotten a lot of great reviews and I do feel that it deserves it after trying it. I could taste that it was creamy and rich and maybe that’s why shoppers loved it so much. Since vanilla flavor is my favorite, this ice cream will definitely be for me.

The next one was one I chose to try only after looking at the high ratings because I’m not particularly partial to raisins in general, although I don’t hate them. But I have to admit that when I tasted the first bite it was quite a surprise. I didn’t expect the sweet chocolate with the slightly tart raisins to be so well balanced.

For someone who isn’t exactly a raisin lover, the flavor balance was perfect and I think it’s one I can include in my repurchase list. Maybe it would be perfect for watching a movie afterwards or when you need a quick taste of something a little sweeter.

Caramel Tres Leches Bar Cake

I found a very textured cake- Caramel Tres Leches Bar Cake. From the looks of it, this cake is definitely my go-to. It had lovely layers and it tasted like a Tres Leches cake should taste, sweet and creamy. But I found it too moist for my taste. Also, the gelatin-like caramel part was surprising and didn’t actually work well. If you really, really like Tres Leches cake, it’s still good, but I wouldn’t buy it again myself.

Now I’m going to mention one of the more spice-heavy cakes, Carrot Bar Cake. This cake is perfect for spice fans. It has a very strong cinnamon flavor and tastes of fall in one bite. But for myself, I found the frosting to be a little too sweet.

In fact, the frosting kind of overpowered the cake. The cake itself had a nice texture and a fine crumb. But the carrots were really a little sticky at times. Honestly, it wasn’t the best carrot cake I’ve ever had. I would eat it again at a party though.

Writing this post has brought back memories of my Costco tasting frenzy, and I think the repurchase rate is still high among some of the desserts I sampled. It’s also a side note that the quality of Costco’s desserts is also worth recognizing. Costco’s dessert section is really worth a visit, just be careful not to overdo it!

Course Dessert
Servings 3

Ingredients

  • 1/2 stick butter room temperature
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup carrot cake jam

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350F.
  • Lightly butter a 9”x9” inch baking pan.
  • Add the butter to a mixer fitted with a paddle attachment and whisk. Then add the brown sugar and whisk to blend. Turn the mixer on low and slowly add the oats, flour, salt, baking soda, pumpkin pie spice and cinnamon. Mix until thoroughly blended.
  • Press half of the mixture into the prepared pan. Press firmly to create a sturdy base.
  • Then whisk the jam in a small bowl so that it is easier to spread. Using the back of a metal spoon, smear the jam over the base but do NOT bring the jam to the edges or it will burn and stick to the side of your pan. Stop with about 1/2 – 1” to spare.
  • Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over top.
  • Bake for about 20 – 25 minutes or until the top is lightly browned.
  • Remove and cool completely. Cut into bars with a serrated edged knife to serve.
