Fried chicken is an easy meal that many people enjoy. You can eat it warm with hot cookies or bring some cold to a picnic. Grocery store delis allow you to get this classic food quickly and inexpensively. Still, people want to know which store has the best fried chicken and which sells it for a good value?

As a huge fan of chicken, it’s important to find the best fried chicken. I wanted to do a big taste test to find out. So, I visited four stores around Myrtle Beach. I went to Publix, Food Lion, Boulineau’s Foods and Lowes Foods in search of crispy, flavorful chicken. Each store has its own pros and cons, but one of them stands out. Their final rankings are here.

Lowes Foods

1. **Lowes Foods**: The experience of eating fried chicken at Lowes Foods was not good. The first bite felt greasy and not fresh at all, as if it had been sitting for a long time. It still had juice in the thigh meat, but the chicken breast was dry compared to the rest of the chicken. Also, the breadcrumbs had little flavor. Sadly, part of the thigh was not breaded at all.

I should probably be skeptical of Lowes Foods’ testing. Of all the chicken, I picked theirs first, so it waited almost an hour in the package. In the past, I did enjoy Lowes Foods chicken. Maybe it’s just that this batch wasn’t made well. However, compared to my other choices, it just wasn’t as good.

However, Lowes Foods does have some good stuff in the deli section. They have southern sides like mac and cheese or tangy apples. The salad bar there is also pretty good. But even with these extra options, it couldn’t save the fried chicken of the day.

2. **Food Lion**: Food Lion Fried Chicken has a spot on this list. It’s a great option and easy to get to when you need it. The fried chicken breading here is the crispiest compared to other fried chicken. That crispiness is definitely a plus for the chicken they sell. But the meat itself seemed a bit on the dry side for me. The seasoning doesn’t compare favorably to the #1 ranked store. It didn’t have a strong flavor, but it didn’t feel greasy at all.

What do you think sets Food Lion apart from other stores? Chicken at this store is not usually ordered at the counter. Customers simply grab it from a hot box next to other ready-made food items. This makes it extremely convenient for people to purchase fried chicken.Food Lion has many locations, which makes it even more convenient. Its fried chicken is not bad when you are pressed for time, but overall it is not my first choice.

3. **Boulineau’s**: Boulineau’s Foods came in second place in my little contest. Their fried chicken is similar to Food Lion in terms of flavor.Boulineau’s has a crispy skin and a juicy thigh portion. However, the chicken breast was a bit dry, which happens from time to time. The biggest problem was a slight fishy flavor in the chicken. Maybe my friend used the same oil as some seafood.

The best part is the deli at Boulineau’s, so if you’re in the neighborhood, be sure to check it out. The variety of food here is amazing. They offer chicken pot pie and classic sides like oatmeal or baked ziti. You can also sit and dine without having to leave. I refrigerate Boulineau’s chicken and it tastes even better. The chicken skin stays crispy and the flavor seems more intense.

Publix

4. **Publix**: n this big test of fried chicken flavors, Publix clearly came out on top. There’s really no comparison between them and any other fried chicken. From the first bite I took, I knew this chicken was special. All parts of the chicken were nicely seasoned. Its breading was flavored with onion powder and other spices. These spices made it taste much better than anyone else. The chicken breasts and thighs are tender and juicy with very little fat. It is an absolute pleasure to eat their chicken.

At first glance Publix’s deli seems a bit plain. The chicken was served in a hot box next to other fried foods. Even the side dishes seemed a bit disappointing at the time. But that’s not the case. The flavor of Publix’s fried chicken is really where it shines. Another bonus is that many Publix locations have seating areas for customers. You can sometimes dine indoors and sometimes you can dine outside. This is my most recommended grocery store fried chicken restaurant.

After trying all the fried chicken at these four locations, I discovered a lot. Each store has its own unique strengths. food Lion has convenience and Boulineau’s has a large deli. However, Publix was the overall winner without a doubt. Next time you are craving fried chicken, go straight to Publix. you will be very happy with your decision.
